English

Information and communication technology-based decision-making tools are currently making waves in the modern business world, coinciding with increasing pressure on auditors to play a more effective role in the governance and control of corporate entities. This article aims to scientifically and systematically identify the factors influencing the future application of artificial intelligence in auditing and present them in a classified manner. While various methods for futures studies exist, the identification of drivers shaping the future is essential in most of them. To this end, the present research has sought to enumerate the drivers influencing the future application of AI in auditing through library studies and expert surveys, and subsequently, using the Delphi method, to identify the most important ones. Seventy drivers affecting the future application of AI in auditing were categorized based on the EPISTLU model and divided into seven groups: Economic, Political, Institutional, Social, Technological, Legal, and University-related. Participants in this research consisted of 29 experts specializing in auditing and familiar with futures studies topics. The classification of the findings into the aforementioned seven groups indicates that numerous and intertwined factors influence the future application of AI in auditing. It can be concluded that shaping the future of AI application in auditing requires attention to and planning for all these diverse factors. The enumeration and classification of the drivers provide the necessary groundwork for prioritizing and determining the significance of each of these drivers.
