The quality of financial reporting is a tool for fulfilling the responsibility of responding to the needs of society, but the existence of economic sanctions is an obstacle on the path to achieving this purpose. In the meantime, the balance between organizational characteristics and environmental factors can be effective in improving the quality of financial reporting. Therefore, in this research, we are trying to investigate the impact of contingent factors (company size, business strategy and competitive environment) on the relationship between sanctions and the financial reporting quality of companies. The results of the research based on the data of 128 companies admitted to the Tehran Stock Exchange for a period of 12 years (1389-1400) using the structural equation modeling approach indicate that the presence of sanctions reduces the quality of financial reporting. On the other hand, the firm Size contingency factor has a direct and positive effect on the relationship between sanctions and the quality of financial reporting. Therefore, it increases the reverse effect of sanctions. Also, the results show that business strategy contingency factor has an inverse effect on the relationship between sanctions and the quality of financial reporting. Also, the competitive environment contingent factor has a negative effect on the relationship between sanctions and the financial reporting quality. The results of this research can improve managers' and auditors' understanding of the impact of the adaptation of environmental factors and organizational characteristics in improving the financial reporting quality under economic sanctions.
